hi! i'm back with another travel/study abroad post on berlin. this is the second in a five week roundup of my time abroad i'm doing on the blog. i hope you guys enjoyed the first one; hopefully it inspired you to look into studying abroad. :) anyways, week two was so much fun. i feel like by the second week i was more familiar with my surroundings, had a good grip on how to use the public transportation, and overall i was just ready to explore! so here's a little roundup of the things i did!
my second week in germany i took a day trip to dessau and visited the bauhaus, a famous design school. the school was one of the first to design things based on their usage, very different from the frivolous and pompous designs that were common place during that time. it's a great place to visit if you're into art/design, but if you're not it will be a veerrryy boring trip.
kreuzberg was my favorite neighborhood in berlin. i got a tour of the neighborhood and found quickly that there were some people that didn't appreciate the large tour groups that were constantly walking around, which i guess is understandable but it's still my favorite part of the city. the whole area just has a very specific vibe to it i haven't seen anywhere else, and there's something cool to explore around every corner. you really won't get bored even if you're just aimlessly walking around. keep an eye out for art by famous street artists, and socialist slogans sprayed on walls and banners; it's a truly unique area.
i took yet another day trip to potsdam, a beautiful city only about thirty minutes outside berlin by train. i would definitely recommend renting a bike there, and taking it through the beautiful parks and up to the palaces. it's a very different city compared to berlin, but amazing in it's own way. i would totally recommend visiting if you are in berlin long enough to give up a day for this fun little side trip.
that's it for week two! i hope you're enjoying these posts; there's now three posts left until i'm done recapping my trip! xo shawndiz
