hi! i hope you guys all had a great weekend, or maybe you have today off like me and are still enjoying your extra long weekend! either way i hope it went well for you, especially since this weekend was valentine's day! it was beautiful here in san diego; outside it was sunny and just the right temperature. i don't know about you guys, but when the weather is just perfect, like it was this weekend, it really makes me want to get outside and do something. so on valentines day, that's exactly what i did. one of my suite mates, lila, and i decided to be each others valentine and went out for the day. it was super fun of course, but we also had our fair share of adventure.
we started the day with brunch at caroline's. lila absolutely loves this place, but i had never been. when we got there though, i totally understood. the food is pretty good and the view is amazing. so if you combine the two it's basically the best combination ever. we waited in line for a good forty minutes, but if you ever go do not be discouraged. stand strong and power through that line because it is definitely worth it. although, if you are a ucsd student or are associated with the scripps institute of oceanography, you can use a separate shorter line.
sitting and watching that view for a good hour really makes you want to go down to the water. so that's what we did. the tide was pretty high, but we found a place to lay down our stuff that we thought would be safe from the waves; but we were definitely NOT safe from the waves. after sitting for a little while a wave came up pretty close but just missed us. we were super stoked and thought we were totally fine. then another wave came. and didn't stop. we grabbed all of our stuff, but we couldn't get it all. lila's phone was completely submerged in water, although by some miracle it still works. the only thing that kind of got wet was the blanket we were sitting on, so we just set our stuff down and thought we'd be fine. but we definitely weren't fine. as soon as we got settled again another wave came, and this one was bad. i mean lila was running after the wave to get our stuff that was being pulled into the ocean bad. we eventually got our stuff back, but decided the beach was not working today. so we found a deck, way above sea level, laid out our blanket and just chilled there. we were taking up a good portion of the deck and got a few awkward stares, but it was well worth it because we had no desire to face the ocean again!
all in all though, it was a great day. i hope you all had a fun valentine's day too! xo shawndiz
