hello; i hope you all had an amazing weekend! i had a lovely weekend spent with family visiting from nor cal, which is always nice. :) today i want to share a relatively simple diy here on the blog. recently i've been seeing lots of super cute cake stands like this or even centerpieces like this and thought that with the right tools, i could easily make one myself. so i did! here's how to do it.
you'll need:
to make:
- log with in the desired diameter
- saw
- sander
- oil finish like this one
- paper towels
to make:
- get your log and saw it through at the desired height of the stand.
- sand both the bottom and the top to make sure it has an even surface to sit on and it's flat on the top.
- pour a small amount of oil on the top part and rub in with a paper towel. add more oil if needed, but you don't need to overdue it.
- let your stand sit for the time instructed by the oil you used before you use it.
this relatively simple diy is a great alternative to buying a super expensive wood cake stand, so i hope you enjoy making them and using them! they work great in the summer as cake stands, cheese platters, center pieces, really anything you can think of. xo shawndiz
